About www.JennCampbell.com:

I have always enjoyed "Taking Pictures." Like many moms, the minute I had my first child I became obsessed with taking pictures. But, gosh darn it, they looked nothing like I had envisioned in my head. At first I thought, "I need a better camera, I'm going to get a DSLR." Well, that didn't do it. Turns out it takes a lot more than a pretty camera. I have learned a lot and I'm still learning. The next problem I encountered was, "What am I going to do with all of the photographs I have accumulated?" There are a lot of neat photo organizational ideas out there. I have created some innovative organizational techniques through lots of trial and error. What works for one person may not work for another. Often, it is a combination of different methods. So, jump in and join me on my journey to document my children's childhood!!!

    I Was In A Rut…

    Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

I love to take pictures of my children, but I was fresh out of ideas. Then I saw some information on a new workshop “Finding the Joy”. This workshop got me out of my picture taking rut! The workshop was filled with lots of new ideas. It was also filled with lots of great tutorials, photoshop templates, and videos. I learned to focus on capturing the everyday moments. Here are some of my pictures from the workshop…

10 Things That Make My Life Easier

    Sunday, August 15th, 2010

These are things that make my life more manageable right now. Keep in mind I have 3 kids ranging in age from 8 months to 4. My list is in no order of importance, as it would change depending on the day and mood :)

    1. Beaba Babycook Baby Food Maker- Love that I can make Baby C food from scratch. This makes it super duper easy. I find it easier than buying the baby food in the store. I can just throw in whatever we have in the fridge. Easy and Healthy!

    2. Kindle Wireless Reading Device- I love to read books. I no longer have the time or energy to run to the bookstore and grab a book. I am also ANTI-CLUTTER at this point in my life. It is super easy and fast to download a book. Love it!

    3. flylady.net- If you haven’t checked this site out, do it now! It will change your life. I no longer have heart palpitations when friends or family drop by without first calling. My house is “usually” in decent shape.
    4. Learning Resources Calendar and Weather Pocket Chart- This is what we do after we eat breakfast every morning. The kids love to report the weather and we are learning all about seasons and time.

    5. Water Bottles- You can get these anywhere. I think we got ours at Target. My kids love to sip on water all day. This is a necessity in Florida!

    6. Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver With Heart Rate Monitor- Running keeps me somewhat sane. I run at least once a day, sometimes twice. This keeps me from getting lazy, as it let’s me know my pace.

    7. Bob Revolution Stroller- This goes hand in hand with number 6. Kids have to come with me when I run. We tell stories, sing songs, and play games.
    8. Netbook- I can answer emails and get a few things done while playing with kids. Or a little stinker can sneak up and takeover!

    9. IMAC- What can I say? I love it. It makes everything easier. My PC would crash all the time and it was slow. This is fast and, knock on wood, no problems yet.

    10. Teething Bling - That cute little baby is currently teething like MAD. My poor shoulder was turning into his teething toy. I bought a pretty green Teething Bling Pendant and we are both relieved. I wish I had a picture of this, but I have few pictures of myself.. (However, I plan to rectify this problem by taking the “Finding Your Joy” workshop-

    Displaying Your Photography

    Friday, August 13th, 2010

I got my first DSLR when my second child was 6 months old (1st child was almost 2 years old.) Since then I have taken tens of thousands of pictures. I also began scrapbooking at this time. I must admit that I really didn’t have time for both of these new hobbies. However, I was totally hooked on preserving every possible memory for my children.

I have since upgraded my camera body and added another kid to the mix. This has added another 10,000 or so pictures. The question is, what do you do with all of these photographs? At a later time, I will dig deeper in to my photo organization techniques, as well as how I am able to keep a scrapbook for each kid and a photo album for each kid. But today I want to talk about displaying some of your AWESOME photographs. What is the best way to do this? The answer is: there is no best way. I used to think that 8×10’s were the way to go. Get a nice frame and throw an 8×10 in the armoire. This is the OLD way of thinking.

I have since decided that bigger is better. I think I may be obsessed with gallery wrapped canvases. When done correctly, they are gorgeous. And guess what? You don’t need a frame. For me this is a huge plus. As I mature, I am learning that I like things that are simple. Without the frame and mat you can easily move your canvases to different rooms in your home. You aren’t stuck because the color of the mat looks great in your family room but horrid in your living room. They are so versatile. This feeds right into my obsession for redecorating.

This is a 16×20 canvas currently displayed in my breakfast nook. Last week it was in the game room.

So, how do you like to display your photographs?

Mr. Bue Eyes and Response to a Blog Challenge

    Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Willette Designs issued a Blog Challenge today. The challenge is to photograph your loved one’s eyes. I love taking pictures of my kids’ gorgeous eyes. I also love it when I get great focus and catchlights. Their eyes just sparkle. I went through a phase where I would over-process their eyes in photoshop. I look back now and think, “Wow, my kids were rockin some alien eyes.” I’m beginning to learn less is more these days. So without further ado. Baby C and his baby blues with no enhancements. Good exposure + Great Catchlights + Good Focus = My little man rockin his blue eyes for his Mama!
