About www.JennCampbell.com:

I have always enjoyed "Taking Pictures." Like many moms, the minute I had my first child I became obsessed with taking pictures. But, gosh darn it, they looked nothing like I had envisioned in my head. At first I thought, "I need a better camera, I'm going to get a DSLR." Well, that didn't do it. Turns out it takes a lot more than a pretty camera. I have learned a lot and I'm still learning. The next problem I encountered was, "What am I going to do with all of the photographs I have accumulated?" There are a lot of neat photo organizational ideas out there. I have created some innovative organizational techniques through lots of trial and error. What works for one person may not work for another. Often, it is a combination of different methods. So, jump in and join me on my journey to document my children's childhood!!!

    I Was In A Rut…

    Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

I love to take pictures of my children, but I was fresh out of ideas. Then I saw some information on a new workshop “Finding the Joy”. This workshop got me out of my picture taking rut! The workshop was filled with lots of new ideas. It was also filled with lots of great tutorials, photoshop templates, and videos. I learned to focus on capturing the everyday moments. Here are some of my pictures from the workshop…

Mr. Bue Eyes and Response to a Blog Challenge

    Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Willette Designs issued a Blog Challenge today. The challenge is to photograph your loved one’s eyes. I love taking pictures of my kids’ gorgeous eyes. I also love it when I get great focus and catchlights. Their eyes just sparkle. I went through a phase where I would over-process their eyes in photoshop. I look back now and think, “Wow, my kids were rockin some alien eyes.” I’m beginning to learn less is more these days. So without further ado. Baby C and his baby blues with no enhancements. Good exposure + Great Catchlights + Good Focus = My little man rockin his blue eyes for his Mama!

    What makes me happy?

    Monday, August 9th, 2010

I’m noticing a theme in forum and blog posts lately. Us moms are “trying” to focus on what makes us happy. I think it’s great and about time. If mom is happy, the whole family is happy, right? There is even a workshop being offered by Kelly Willette about “Finding Your Joy.” Check it our here:

I think this is a great idea. I would love to be in a few more pictures. Sometimes I’m afraid the kids will look back at their albums and think, “Where the heck was my mom?”

I’ve been trying to figure out what makes me happy. I asked myself, “If I had a whole day to myself, what would I do with that day?” Here’s what I came up with:
    1. Sleep in :)
    2. Go for a run without having to push a stroller
    3. Take a nice long, quiet shower (with no interruptions)
    4. Read a book

Ok, so now it’s 11:00 in the morning and I’m lonely and bored. Let’s face it, I’m used to the chaos and I really think I like it. So now I’d grab my camera and my kids and start taking pictures of my favorite subjects.

    CHAOS!!!

    …The Perfect Day!

Want To Get A Good Pic of a 3 Year Old Boy? Read On…

    Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

My 3 year old can be quite the stinker.  Especially when I have my camera in tow.  Well, listen up folks, I have a HUGE secret to share with you.  If you want to get a good picture of your little boy, you are going to want to read on.   The secret to better photographs is (drum roll please)……….

    THE FART MACHINE!

Say what… (Ok in our family we have to call it the “Pass Gas Machine”)

Yes, I did just type out “THE FART MACHINE.”

Folks,  this is going to change your life.  This one little machine can turn a grump into a smiley, giggly little fellow. You are going to get eye contact, you are going to get great expressions.  Here is a link to one at The Original Fart Macine #2 – Remote Fart Machine.
This may be a new and improved Fart Machine.  I have owned the one in the picture for over 5 years (yes, I am slightly embarrassed to admit this little fact.)

When I take photographs of this kid, I usually get eyes rolling and tongues hanging out (a bit like our Golden Retriever.)  But now that I have the power of the “Fart Machine”…

    Look at that eye contact.

No tongues sticking out.  This kid is actually having fun!

Stay tuned because I’ve got loads of other tricks to share with you.  I promise that most of them won’t be as crude (or as fun) as the Fart Machine.  I’ve learned a lot about getting decent expression from a little kid in the past 5 years, mostly from trial and error.  I can’t wait to share…

If you get the fart machine and have success, leave us a comment and a sample of your work!!!
